Aitchison Raffety, a leading practice of chartered surveyors and town planners, has appointed Simon Cosstick and Thomas Shaw to their Business Rates Advisory team.
Both Simon and Thomas are members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and will be based at the London and St Albans offices respectively.
Simon joins as an Associate Director and will be responsible for providing advice on rates liability, rates mitigation strategies and budget planning. An experienced operator in the field, his role will involve submitting Checks and Challenges to the Valuation Office Agency and providing strategic advice to occupiers and Landlords in London and the South East.
Simon has a wealth of experience in all aspects of business rates, most recently working with central London clients in challenging their rateable values, advising on rates mitigation strategies and ensuring properties undergoing redevelopment are not liable for business rates. Extensive knowledge in advising serviced office providers and within the motor trade show industry give a breadth of expertise that enhances our team.
Robert Clifford, Director of Business Rates, commented “We are pleased to welcome Simon to Aitchison Raffety. With his experience in Central London he will be a valuable member of our busy team. Our team is well established in the business rates advice sector and Simon’s skills and experience will enhance our existing services, supporting our current clients and assisting us to grow our client base. We are excited by this appointment which will help us on our journey to be the First Choice provider for Business Rates advice.”
Thomas joins as a Senior Surveyor and will be responsible for providing business rates advice to clients throughout the UK. A driven and diligent surveyor, he will provide advice on rates mitigation and business planning strategies in addition to submitting appeals to reduce rateable values.
Thomas joins Aitchison Raffety from Allsop LLP where he provided strategic business rates advice to office and retail occupiers throughout London. Adept at navigating the VOA Check, Challenge and Appeal system, he has been instrumental in recovering overpaid business rates for many clients and in agreeing temporary reductions in liability due to building works. A great communicator and professional, he is a committee member of the London Rating Network.
Anthony Waller, Director of Business Rates, said “We are delighted that Thomas has joined our team. Thomas has great communication skills and a drive to exceed client expectations. This is a very exciting time to be joining Aitchison Raffety, we have a clear ambition to develop and expand the range of services we offer. I am looking forward to working with Thomas to help more clients through the challenges we currently face and seek opportunities during these extraordinary times.”
